If your child is a baby that loves to entertain a crowd, you may want to have a Broadway themed party. But if you are concerned that the theme might exclude the non-theater going guests, pick one show as the theme that has recognizable ties to children's pop culture. Current shows on Broadway based on popular children's movies include The Lion King, The Little Mermaid, and Shrek the Musical. With these great productions to choose from, you are bound to throw a party that will be fun for everyone attending.
Using a popular children's show as a guide, you can turn your event location into a magical world.
To create Ariel's undersea home from The Little Mermaid, fill the room with blue streamers and shimmering tablecloths. Hang fish, jellyfish, and mermaids from the ceiling, and, if you are feeling particularly creative, you could even fashion a sunken pirate ship out of a large box.
If you want to turn the room into the African Savannah for a The Lion King themed party, choose browns and greens for tablecloths, streamers, and balloons. It might also be a good idea to hang a sun from the ceiling, and pictures of lions, zebras, and other African wildlife on the walls. Turn one of the tables into Pride Rock, and surround it with stuffed animals.
Also, you can throw gummy worms into chocolate pudding and turn it into swamp sludge from Shrek the Musical. A good way to get the kids involved in the dessert making process is to have each child decorate his or her own cupcake with colorful frosting and edible themed props.
The party guests won't have to be familiar with Broadway to be able to participate in the activities. Kids can decorate their own party favors, such as lion masks from The Lion King, ogre masks from Shrek the Musical, or giant seashells from The Little Mermaid. Keep in mind, though, that if you will be using any kind of glue or marker, there will need to be considerable adult supervision to ensure everyone's safety.
